Lost Sheep

Page 1-2:

Major and herbie were out playing when all of a sudden they heard a shout..They went to the fence it was percy the farmer." All my sheep have dissappeared.What will I do". he said

Major and herbie looked at each other." It must be the foxes again" said herbie...."We will help you find them" said major..

Page 3-4:

"Ok herbie will have to fly high above to get a good view. Get the 'magical cheese squares' " said major.Herbie opened up his treats pouch. " here you go major eat these"

Major ate three of the 'magical cheese squares' and his ears began to tingle and rise and herbie jumped on his back. Up up and away they went as majors large ears opened up and took them up in the air.

Page 5-6:

Major and herbie were flying above the forest near percy's farm."Look there they are" said herbie. 'Lets get closer look"

Major landed near the ledge on the hill. The foxes had captured the sheep and trapped them in gate.

Herbie said "Ok here is the plan."" I will go and distract the foxes and you can open the gate and free the sheep."" Ok, be careful the foxes are very clever." said major

Herbie crept up near the foxes so the could see him and left a loud bark."whoof, whoof ". The foxes all looked at herbie and chased him. Herbie ran as fast as he could into the forest.

 Page 9-10:  

Meanwhile Major , went down to the gate to free the Sheep. He opened the latch and out the sheep came and followed major out of the woods.

Herbie was behind a tree in the forest and could hear the foxes nearby. He was surrounded with nowhere to go. What was he going to do?

Page 11-12:

Major, got all the sheep back to Percy the farmer. " Thank you so much Major, but where is your friend herbie?" Major was worried as herbie was usually very quick and able to out run the foxes. Major decided to go back and look for herbie to make sure he was ok.

Herbie could see a hole in the tree and had to make a quick decision so in he jumped.

 Page 13-14:

Major, eventually got back to the forest and could not find herbie anywhere...." Psst, psst, major". Major looked around but could not see him. "Look up, im in here."said herbie. Major looked and there was herbie in the hole in the tree.

"How did you get up there." said major.
"My new friend Pidgey the squirrel helped me " herbie replied.And down they came. Pidgy and major all made friends and everyone went home.

 Page 15-16:

"How did you hide from the foxes". asked major." well when i could't go left or right or down, there was only one way to go....UP"

The Story / Background

Major and Herbie are two Hounds from different backgrounds. Both these dogs forged a strong bond when they were both adopted by the same human family.

Major is a strong, dependable bassett hound who was a Sergant major in the kennel attacks of the past. He was a well decorated leader during the Kennel attacks between the Hounds and foxes. A war which has ended in hound victory but bitterness is still is rife. Herbie is a skillfull sniper and proved an integral part of the special forces during the same war. He was dismissed from service for a reason unknown. Both were now live with human family and are sometimes employed by 'Percy' the local farmer to do reconnaissance missions over his farm and land to keep an eye on the sheep from the attack of rogue foxes.

Major has the gift of flight. When he eats magical cheese squares his large ears give the ability to take flight. Herbie has a very loud bark and has excellent hearing which enables him to hear anything from distance. He has a fear of water and dislikes been woke up.

Inspiration

Herbie was one of two dashounds that we had. Rocky his brother was killed in car accident after many years with us. Herbie was lost without his brother so we decided to look for new companion. Then he arrived. Major the large friendly and burley basset hound. Then the fun began. The two dogs venture off and are always up to mischief, thats what made me think of : what are those two hounds really up to?

As we live in the country the wildlife is plentiful and everyday a new event occurs. The dogs have forged a strong bond and very rarely are apart. But the mischief continues.....
